Welcome
Boyd Morson the "People's Choice for Central District City Council"
seeks your support and Vote on Tuesday, November 2, 2010!
Thank you for all for your Vote and Support!
I want to continue to earn your confidence, trust, support and VOTE of
Choice in this upcoming Election on November 2nd.
As some of you may know I have personally walked this entire Central
District for what is now the ending of my third campaign. And with the
overwhelming number of votes and supporters, I once again became
the First and Only Person of Color in Brooklyn Park's History (1860)
to ever make it to the General Election.(twice) A huge Milestone, for our
city and one I wasn't/isn't seeking, but a tremendous honor and
accomplishment, that I'm truly proud to hold and share with you. A title
those of you who believed in me and my message; "Common Sense
Solutions to Common Issues and Problems." Where I again earned
the respect, trust and confidence of the many great people in the Central District.
Brooklyn Park, in todays challenging times, with state funding cuts, unfair property taxes, decreasing property
values, off-the-chart unemployment and the lack of businesses, I hear you crying out for help and relief. Our
seniors and retirees are struggling and our middle class families are also feeling the pinch as they too struggle to
pay their unfair share of property taxes and pay their bills. I have personally knocked on thousand of doors, shook
thousands of hands, and listened to many shared heartfelt stories... I've equally had meaningful conversations with
our local business community, who too share troubling times in our local business economy and share even more
their frustrations in dealing and doing business with the city. While other businesses refuses to even come to
Brooklyn Park, because of the many unnecessary inspections, fees, and fines associated with just simply trying to
do business here in the city.
I've even had the great pleasure of meeting and having meaningful, yet disheartening conversations with some of
our youth and young Lemonade Entrepreneurs with dreams. That too, struggles, as they look for ways to stay
productive in the city, as summer jobs, aren't available because we have no vibrant business community to employ
them. And the ones that we did have are taking by our unemployed and laid-off Brooklyn Park adults. Our youth
don't have much to do in Brooklyn Park, no theatre, no museums, no community pool, and the programming is
out-of-touch from what they want. The library is and has been outdated for years, yet we have a dog park for our
pets. And I'm a pet owner. Yet our youth have very few places to go, leaving them to unfortunately hang out on the
streets. But, our pet does. What's wrong and missing from these pictures? Your right Common Sense!
I've even shared laughs and food with some of you and invited back. All these efforts exhausted just to let you all
know, that I genuinely care and truly committed, concerned, passionate, devoted, dedicated, determined and for
real... about wanting to be the staple of the Central District, that holds this district together, as a voice of reason,
logic, understanding that's committed to utilizing a common-sense approach for the stakeholders at city hall.
Also on my journey to earn your vote, trust and confidence, I learned that many of you were/are new to our
community and to those of you who are/were... Allow me this moment to extend on behalf of my family and I, a
warm and friendly welcome to you and your family, to a city I'm strongly passionate about and truly believe has the
makings of becoming thee model city in the Twin Cities, for other cities to follow, if we just simply applied a little
common-sense to the goings-on here in Brooklyn Park. If we just simply included and involved, accepted,
embraced and engaged all stakeholders equally and fairly in the process along with adopting and applying a
common-sense approach of simply working together with; "one-love, one-focus, one-purpose, one-vision, and
with one-goal, that will better enable us to achieve that goal of becoming that model city for others to follow.
Brooklyn Park, I truly recognize the urgent need, now more than ever, we need City Hall to be reflective of the
community in which it serve. Over the past two decades the city has undergone significant transformation as the
demographic mix has immensely expanded to become one of the well diverse and culturally enriched
communities from a wide variety of cultures and ethnic groups, making Brooklyn Park one of the most diverse
communities in the region. However their are relatively few civic organizations and participation in the public
process is very low, particularly among minorities, new residents and local businesses. It is important that we
begin to frame issues in a way that evokes strong citizens interest and local business support.
I also know we have crime. I want to improve the quality of life in Brooklyn Park. I understand that Law
Enforcement alone, just won't solve our problems. But, with my planned Community Based Radio Patrol and with
Community Policing we can begin building that needed trust. We need to work with the community and not against
the community. And if we're going to solve any problems we must do it together. But, we don't need and/or want
them to do it at the expense of disrespecting our community. I know that you don't have to live, the way you're living,
in fear. Please understand these problems aren't unique to Brooklyn Park. We just unfortunately choose to
promote and publicize them weekly, like their first run movies at the theatre, that we don't have. We allow a few folk,
make the majority of the people feel their under siege right in their own neighborhoods. We may have had a rash of
crimes, drugs, violence, shootings murders stabbing and death. We need to be asking what can I do or say to
make our children feel safe in the community and ask how can they get involved. If the community particularly the
youth feel more scared than safe when they see a Police Officer, it's our job to remedy that. But our focus should be
on how we can together build a better relationship between our community and police department to prevent,
intervene and solve unwanted crimes, including sign stealing. And if anyone thinks this is a soft way of policing,
their totally misguided.
I know that in 2009 we unfortunately received nearly 800 foreclosures many from the Central District. I'm aware the
city has a three stage Foreclosure Prevention Initiative. I also know that Target promised us 3000 new workforce
housing units and haven't given us anything for the tax abatement we gave them. So, simply using this thing called
common sense... why don't we just ask Target to purchased our foreclosed homes and put them back on our tax
roles instead. It will help our budget and stabilize property taxes.
It's truly time for this primitive- outdated way of thinking and disconnected behavior to cease. Enough is enough!
Brooklyn Parkers we are an Armada. All sorts of Americans, wonderful people, all ages, beliefs and ethnicities,
with different skills, talents and from different places, socially, economically and financially, that have all chosen to
live, work, play, educate, learn, raise a family, worship, and do business going forward. We all love our city,
community, neighborhoods and want to lead good lives, which was noted as we were selected by the state and
nation as the #1 city in the nation for National Night Out. (kudos) This and many other untold stories are the real
stories, that too often goes unspoken, unheard and un-talked about... The stories about the many great, wonderful
and caring people in Brooklyn Park. The stories that need and should to be shared with the nation about Brooklyn
Park. Yet, we are unfortunately and continuous reminded of how we are negatively impacted, adversely associated,
plagued and haunted by past decisions, dealings, struggles, crimes and drugs, and of being un-accepting,
uninviting, unfriendly and unwelcoming to people of color and local business and too residents South of 85th.
Some of those problems of the past that presently resembles our past and that's preventing us from moving
forward.
With your VOTE on Tuesday - November 2nd, we can together work to change that negative image and perception
and the way we do business by together rewriting our history! A new and unified History, that begins to tell new
stories about new families and how long time residents and all stakeholders came and worked together with;
one-love, one-vision, one-purpose, and one-goal, to make Brooklyn Park the model city for others to follow. We
all bought, built and live here, so now is the time, that we together start, taking the necessary steps and action to
work on that "One Love Goal." Now is the time, to put a proven leader out in front with the experience, leadership,
passion, assertiveness, vision, energy and track record to get the job done! The same vision I had when, I
introduced Celebrating the Many Faces of Brooklyn Park to the city of Brooklyn Park years ago! An event the city
continues to support years later. Now is the time for a diverse perspective on race, policing, age, youth, seniors
taxes property values, issues, problems, city and solutions. Now is time to Support, Vote and Elect Boyd Morson,
a New Face for Central District City Council. " Common Sense Solutions to Common Issues and Problems."
